Now this is the where it gets really interesting, the stories we tell ourselvesโ€ฆ that we are too naรฏve, too nice, too good and others are taking advantage of us. Isnโ€™t it a nice story? Because in this story โ€œ you are the wronged, you are the victim.โ€

What happens when we know that everyone believes I will always be a little late? I stop feeling guilty about being late, I start being ok with being late.

Similarly, when I say I am the poor one, the wronged one; I start being ok with it.

I do nothing to change the status quo. Of course I wish the other would changeโ€ฆ maybe they should start showing more respect, love, adulation, appreciation; but it is always about them needing to change rather than meโ€ฆ. Because hey I am the nice one who is always wronged.

So like a fairy tale, the others will miraculously change and I will be rescued is the belief.

This is infantile, this is crazy, this robs us of our own greatness and makes us weaker than ever- subservient to our stories, tethered to external validation.
